Here are some simple and inexpensive ideas that Dad and the kids
can do to make the day memorable.

Use your inside voices and let her sleep in. Cost nothing but priceless to mom!

Kick start the day with a homemade breakfast. Whip up some pancakes, eggs and bacon, or French toast if you all are feeling ambitious. Health conscious moms will enjoy yogurt, fruit and homemade granola (easy to make but a little time-consuming). Make it breakfast in bed by serving mom on a tray with fresh flowers.

Create a bouquet of photo flowers. Cut out cute paper flowers from construction paper, then paste photos of the kids and family in the center of the buds.

Make her a coupon book. Each coupon features a task that you all will do lovingly, of course, such as taking out the trash, making her bed, giving her a back or foot rub. Remember, no grumbling when she gets ready to redeem her coupons!

Name her “queen for the day.” Decorate a plain white pillowcase with glitter and write “Queen for the Day.” Slip it over the back of her chair so she can dine in regal style.

Start a garden. Buy and plant some pretty perennials like peonies or irises. Create a cute sign with her name to stake in the garden. Just remember to help maintain the flowers throughout the spring so her gift doesn’t become a chore for her!

Watch her favorite movie. She’s been begging to watch Meet Me in St. Louis or old home movies together as a family. Today’s the day to pretend how happy you are to indulge her viewing pleasure.

Write her a poem. Make it a funny limerick or a simple haiku – or go to and check out their 101 poems for mom. Here’s a sample:

Mommy, I Love You

For the fun loving mom that was always there.

    Mommy, I love you
    For all that you do.
I’ll kiss you and hug you
    ‘Cause you love me, too.
You feed me and need me
    To teach you to play,
So smile ‘cause I love you
    On this Mother’s Day.
