Interested in seeing the “fastest sport on two feet?” Head to the Infinite Energy Center to catch one of Atlanta’s newest professional sports teams, the Georgia Swarm. One of nine teams in the National Lacrosse League (NLL), the Swarm made their debut in 2016. In their second season, they have the best record in the NLL and the league record for most goals scored in one season (266).

Be prepared before you go: this is not the outdoor field lacrosse that most youth play. Box (a.k.a., indoor) lacrosse is similar, but with several distinguishing features including a smaller field area (most often an ice hockey rink covered with turf), fewer players (five on-field “runners” and a goalie), smaller goals and a 30-second shot clock.  Per the NLL website, box lacrosse “combines the physical play of hockey with the high scoring, fast pace and play-making style of basketball.” In short: it’s a blast to watch.

Swarm games are family-friendly, with youth players gathering on the field to create a starting lineup tunnel for player introductions and scrimmages between youth teams between periods. Kids will love the fast-paced, physical play and the energizing background music played continuously throughout the game. Younger kids will enjoy the opportunity to meet the team mascot,”Stinger.” Don’t miss the “Swarm Dance” when the team scores a goal!

Parents will love that there are opportunities for kids who are interested in playing lacrosse to get lessons from the pros. Swarm Youth Box League offers practices and league play in the Fall, with more traditional lacrosse camps and clinics for youth ages 9 and older throughout the year.  The Infinite Energy Center is also easily accessible with free parking and a range of concessions for every appetite.
