Enjoy Super Museum Sunday
Hosted by the Georgia Historical Society, this annual event invites visitors to explore the rich and diverse stories that have shaped the state. On February 9, dozens of museums, historic sites and cultural institutions will offer free admission.
Georgia State Historic Sites
These sites will offer interactive exhibits, guided tours and hands-on activities to make history engaging for all ages. Check out these sites in the metro area:
Etowah Indian Mounds State Historic Site, Cartersville
These mounds were home to several thousand people more than 400 years ago. Walk to the top of the tallest mound and imagine citizens’ lives between 1000-1500 A.D.
Pickett’s Mill Battlefield State Historic Site, Dallas
Pickett’s Mill is one of the best-preserved Civil War battlefields in the nation, highlighted with a museum, earthworks and wooded trails.

Euharlee Welcome Center & History Museum
This museum presents the history of Euharlee and southwest Bartow County, beginning with Cherokee history through to the present day. Also on display, see contemporary works from Georgia artists.
History Cherokee
Located in Canton, visit to explore Cherokee County history with six galleries and two outdoor exhibits.
Gone with the Wind Museum at Historic Brumby Hall
This Marietta site features an extensive collection of memorabilia relating to the book and movie.
Marietta History Center
The center houses the largest collection of artifacts relating to Marietta and Cobb County’s history with exhibits focused on General History, Home Life and Military.
William Root House
Visit one of the oldest and best preserved houses in the Atlanta area, and touchscreens, activity books, scavenger hunts and interactive areas make its history engaging.
Newnan-Coweta History Center
Take a museum tour, go on a self-guided tour, and check out “Boiled Peanuts: A Georgia Food Tour” by Kelly Young-Silverman. To celebrate the book, enjoy boiled peanuts and a kid’s craft.
Moreland Adventure
Also in Coweta County, visit The Little Manse: Birthplace & Museum of Erskine Caldwell to see copies his 80 works, along with memorabilia of the writer and his family. The Moreland Hometown Heritage Museum: A Tribute to Lewis Grizzard travels back in time to the author’s youth in Moreland.
Oglethorpe Museum of Art
Head to Brookhaven to view a collection of Asian art, an exhibit focused on women artists and the lives and works of Catherine Wiley and Beauford Delaney.
Roswell’s Historic Home Museums
Part of the Roswell Roots celebration, Barrington Hall, Bulloch Hall, and Smith Plantation offer a glimpse into 19th-century Roswell life.
Douglas County Museum of History and Art
View a collection of artifacts and exhibitions that will captivate your curiosity and explore the history of the county.
Heritage Park Veterans Museum
Honor veterans at this museum featuring collections ranging from dog tags to military vehicles, hand-made dioramas, a Wall of Honor and more.
