Cark Rubbing Picture & Twig Frame
By Atlanta Parent Editorial . June 2, 2014
Remember when you were a kid and you did bark rubbing pictures in elementary school? Unleash your child’s artistic side with this classic, creative and colorful summer craft that creates a piece of art that will look beautiful on your mantel.
What you will need:
White or plain wooden frame
Selection of small twigs
White acrylic paint
Paintbrush
Glue
Colored paper for background
Thin white paper
Scissors
Piece of bark and small leaves
Oil pastels or wax crayons (assorted colors)
Glue stick
To prepare the frame coat twigs with white acrylic pains and let dry. If you are using a wooden frame, paint the frame with 2-3 coats of paint as well. Arrange the twigs around the frame in desired positions and then glue when ready. Put the frame aside to dry. Prepare your background paper by tracing around the backing piece of the frame onto colored paper and then cut out. Put a sheet of thin white paper over the piece of bark and teach your kids how to make bark rubbings using the different colored pastels or crayons. They can do this either inside with a piece of bark or can take it outside and take the rubbings directly from the trees in the backyard. When finished, place the picture inside of the friend and display for everyone to see.
