Want to wow your guests with an impressive cake? “We like mixing flavors within our tiers to create a unique and fun slice of dessert. Our specialty cake tiers consist of three layers of cake and two layers of filling,” says Mark Brickman, pastry chef and owner. Themed specialty cakes have included robots, race cars, unicorns and so much more! For a first birthday party, they include a complimentary four-inch smash cake with the same theme.

Order a handcrafted three-layer cake for your celebration, but you can also think beyond the traditional cake. “Cupcakes, cake pops or decorated cookies can supplement a smaller cake if you want more single-serve items for guests,” says owner Liz Spitdowski. “Custom cookies are definitely hot right now. They are my best seller by far for just about any event.” Consider using cookies as favors for a sweet giveaway!

Tips for Ordering

Reach out early. “Planning ahead is one of my best suggestions if you want a specialty custom cake. Since this is all we do, it does limit how many orders we take each week. Many cakes are very time-consuming and have to be worked on over several days to create the overall look with the details,” Brickman says. A minimum of two weeks ahead of the party is recommended, but the earlier, the better.

Know the hours. Most bakeries are only open on certain days at certain times, or they may require you to schedule a consultation appointment.

Communicate with your baker. “If you have a specific style or design in mind, it’s very helpful for your baker to see examples,” Spitdowski says. “Share the party décor, any inspiration photos you have, and be sure to specify any important details that are a must-have, such as name, age, birthday message or specific colors.”

Share your vision. “Everything we create is custom, so it is very rare that we ever create two, exactly-the-same cakes. Even if it is one of our designs, we add the client’s own personal touch to it,” says Brickman.

Think about the colors. “Deep or heavily saturated colors can temporarily stain mouths, which is something to keep in mind if photos are important,” Spitdowski says.

Metro Atlanta is home to many different types of people, so you can find the right fit for your needs. Vegan bakeries in the area include Flour + Time Bakery, The Vegan Sweetie and Dulce Vegan Bakery & Café. Gluten-free birthday babies will love Hell Yeah, 2B Whole Bakery and Valley’s Bakery.
