In the Neighborhood: Norcross
Dating back to 1870, Norcross is Gwinnett County’s second-oldest city and the first to be placed on the National Registry of Historic Places.
Summer is the perfect time to get outside and explore parks and playgrounds. Lillian Webb Park is a great option thanks to its splash pad, which is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The 4.2-acre park is also home to a large green space for the kids to let loose. Looking for more of a traditional park experience? Thrasher Park hosts events like the Summer Concert Series. It also has grills and pavilions for summer cookouts, along with plenty of space for the kids to play. Both parks are conveniently located within walking distance from downtown Norcross, so you make a day of these outings.
Satisfy your travel bug without leaving Atlanta when you shop at Taste of Britain. Located in downtown Norcross, this fun, quirky shop has a huge selection of British snacks to try, including chocolates, candies and crisps. Plus, they everything you need to host an authentic tea time. Since 1989, it’s been a neighborhood favorite.
Take a night off cooking and try Savage Pizza. With its superhero theme and arcade games in the lobby, kids will love exploring the space while you wait for your food. The dough and sauces are made in-house, and they offer gluten-free and vegetarian options. The Southern Cue is a must-try, unique pizza with Fox Bros. BBQ sauce, roasted chicken, bacon and some veggies.
Help your kids develop a love for the arts and catch a show at Lionheart Theatre Company. This local, affordable theater experience is great for first-time audience members. This month, check out “The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood,” which is a comedy. They also offer summer camps and open auditions for productions for community members and kids who want to try acting.
The whole family will enjoy a day avoiding the heat at Tiny Towne. Kids of all ages can try driving around their tracks. Plus, there’s an arcade, soft playground and train rides. While this experience can be more fun for younger kids, older kids (ages 9 and older) will enjoy the chance to get behind the wheel of a Smart Car for a real-life driving experience.
