In the Neighborhood: Stone Mountain/Tucker
A look at the top family-friendly spots in this part of metro Atlanta.
One of the metro area’s most famous attractions is Stone Mountain Park. The 3,200-acre complex is home to attractions, outdoor activities and several lodging options. This month, enjoy special event Dino Fest or the classic adventures of Summit Skyride, mini golf, Scenic Railroad and more. If you are looking to explore nature, check out the Woodland and Meadow trails. Each are one mile long, making them ideal for little legs or strollers. If you finish your adventures early, visit the local shops and restaurants at nearby Stone Mountain Village before heading home.
Animal loving kids will enjoy Goat Yoga and Cow Cuddling at GGA in Tucker. Their tot class is 45 minutes long and is perfect for little bodies ready to learn beginner’s skills. Plus, there’s a dedicated time after class to take photos. If you prefer something less active, you can just book a cuddle session and help feed the animals as well.
Enjoy a day of fun for free at Henderson Park East in Tucker. The 111-acre park is home to Lake Erin and features a waterfall and fishing access. Soccer fields, tennis courts, picnic shelters, paved and unpaved hiking trails, a dog park, Native Plant and Wildlife Walk and Henderson Park Community Garden are other amenities you can enjoy. Kids will love the park’s playground with slides and climbing structures.
For one of the largest and most accessible playgrounds in Atlanta, visit Wade Walker Park in Stone Mountain. The playground is wheelchair accessible, and has an accelerator swing, gravity rail and climbing nets. The area is almost fully shaded. The 177 acres also feature fields and courts to play street hockey, baseball, softball, football, soccer and tennis. A swimming pool, picnic area, as well as lake and trails, round out the experience.
If you love festivals, you’ll want to visit Tucker Town Green, a two-acre park located near Main Street. The green space is a newer addition to the downtown area and is home to play spaces for kids, as well as acting as a gathering place for community events. With ample parking nearby, there is also a pavilion, water features, tables and chairs for picnicking and restrooms. Grab a warm drink at Corner Cup Coffee or sweet treat at Munster Cravings, which is famous for its large and unique cookie creations.
