Roswell Area Park

A look at the top family-friendly spots in this part of metro Atlanta.

Did You Know?

  • Roswell wasn’t always part of Fulton County. It was originally part of Cobb County, but it was annexed into Fulton County in May 1932.
  • The 26th President of the United States, Teddy Roosevelt had ties to Roswell. His mother grew up in Bulloch Hall (which is open for tours) and his parents were married there in 1853.
  • Vickery Creek Falls features a dramatic 30-foot waterfall and the ruins of Roswell Mill, a 19th-century textile operation. The outdoor attraction is accessible via walking trails and a covered pedestrian bridge.

Let the kids loose to run and play at Roswell Area Park. There are five miles of walking trails, including the loop around the pond that is just reopening with better infrastructure and newly planted trees. The centrally located park is also home to a huge playground with multiple play structures for kids young and old. The restrooms are very close and there’s plenty of shade and seating for parents. Ball fields, basketball courts, an arts center and pool round out the park’s amenities.

Enjoy the cooler weather and explore the local shops and restaurants on Downtown Canton Street. Some of the most family-friendly spots are breakfast fave Gracious Plenty and Butter & Cream for sweet treats. A newer boutique Pinkerton Baby & Kids has great finds for clothes and gifts. Plus, the area is home to events like Alive in Roswell and the Christkindl Market.

Have a family date at Aurora Cineplex. The locally owned movie theater and mini-golf venue is a great place to spend time together and make some memories. There are two 18-hole courses for mini-golf; if you play on the same day that you see a movie, your round is only $5 per person. They also offer specials on snacks on Wednesdays.

Set on 127 acres adjacent to the Chattahoochee River, the Chattahoochee Nature Center is designed to help you understand the ecosystem of the area. You can hike, explore wetlands, meet native species and go canoeing. The Discovery Center is an educational space to help you learn more about the River and how to protect this important resource. They also host events like Family Fun Days, which return in January.

Explore the fascinating world of technology, art and innovation at the Mimms Museum of Technology and Art. Exhibits focus on the evolution of computers and space travel, and the full experience takes about 90 minutes. Plus, check out more than 70 supercomputers and see how Apple products have transformed the way we live. Families can also enjoy retro gaming, making this a fun yet educational outing. They also host trivia and speed puzzling nights for some friendly competition.
