Special Events Internship 2018
DESCRIPTION:
Atlanta Parent Magazine Inc. announces the availability of an exciting internship in our Special Events Department. The successful candidate will focus efforts on the “Cover Kid Contest”, “Camp Expo” and our “Family Festival” (previously Family Block Party) event.
This intern will work directly with Atlanta Parent staff and gain valuable skills while assisting with event planning, corporate research and volunteer outreach. Candidate must be energetic, a team player, results-oriented and dedicated to the achievement of personal and team goals. This internship requires a candidate with confidence in interpersonal communication, comfort with phone cultivation and a passion for making events special for families and children. This internship is ideal for undergraduate students or recent graduates seeking experience in event-planning, relationship management, marketing, and fund-raising.
EVENT OVERVIEW:
Family Festival is Atlanta Parents’ largest event benefiting local non-profit organizations. Family Festival is a one-day, event with more than 5,000 visitors attending annually featuring over 50 hands-on activities for kids, entertainment, exhibitors, food and more! Additional events include Cover Kids contest and the Talent Showdown. This years’ largest family festival will take place on in October at Mercer University Atlanta Campus.
This position provides the opportunity to gain experience and training in:
Relationship management
Meeting planning/execution
Database management
Special event logistics and planning
General office skills
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Meet with prospective team leaders
Research companies/markets including cold calling
Meticulously track and monitor exhibitors/participants and entertainment
Assist in planning/implementation layout of event and activities
Create, develop and implement marketing materials and mailings
Possibility of accompanying AP Staff member on event related meetings
Recruit and serve as a liaison to Day-of Event exhibitors, sponsors, volunteers & entertainment
Maintain databases, mailing lists, telephone networks, and other information to facilitate the functioning of specific programs
Other office duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Open to full-time college students in good academic standing, completing their sophomore, junior, or senior year or to graduates of less than one year
Applicant must demonstrate a relationship between their projected major field of study
Demonstrate a C+ average (cumulative 2.75 on 4.0 scale)
Excellent spoken and written communication skills; comfortable doing local outreach and making presentations to businesses and constituents
Ability/willingness to learn and apply new skills quickly
Optimistic, team-player with a friendly, outgoing demeanor a must
Employ discretion, tact, and empathy; pro-active and intuitive people skills
Proficient computer skills including e-mail, web browsing, typing, Microsoft and Adobe programs.
COMPENSATION:
Unpaid internship
Must commit to 20-40 hours per week during regular business hours in Atlanta, GA office
Weekend and evening work will be required
Opportunity to work additional hours remotely
Flexible start and end date.
