Activity: Chocolate Rockets
What you’ll need:
3 large bananas
6 wooden popsicle sticks
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 Tbsp. butter or vegetable oil
¼ cup finely chopped nuts
¼ cup ice cream sprinkles
How to make
Peel bananas and cut in half lengthwise. Insert a wooden stick into cut ends of banana halves. Place on a baking sheet lined with waxed paper. Freeze for about 30 minutes.
Meanwhile, place chocolate chips and butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high for 1 minute; stir. Microwave until melted, stopping every 30 seconds and stirring.
Hold a frozen banana over a bowl of melted chocolate and spoon the melted chocolate over the banana to lightly cover it. Quickly sprinkle with nuts and sprinkles. Return to baking sheet. Repeat with remaining frozen bananas.
Freeze for 15 minutes to 1 hour before serving. Or store in freezer in airtight container up to 1 week.
Makes 6 rockets.
Feeling patriotic? Decorate the rockets with patriotic colored or star-shaped sprinkles. You could even use white chocolate instead, then dye it using red, white and blue food coloring. Try not to eat all of these delicious treats before your July 4th party tomorrow!
