Celebrate “Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast” Day!
National “Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day” is February 7. It’s a great excuse to break the rules and have a little fun as a family. Whether you stay at home or visit a local shop, chill out and get ready to celebrate!
Out and About
Stop by this popular Atlanta shop for special breakfast flavors, including Maple Buttered Waffle and Sunday Brunch, or choose Classic Chocolate or Tahitian Vanilla. From 9 a.m.-noon, enjoy a house-made cinnamon roll and free coffee. Decatur, Norcross, Roswell and Duluth.
Jeni’s scoop shops across Atlanta will be celebrating from 9 a.m.-noon—wear your pajamas and head to one of their eight locations in the metro area. Breakfast-friendly flavors include Powdered Jelly Donut, Maple-Soaked Pancakes and Caramel Pecan Sticky Bun.
Choose from an array of fun flavors like Blue Moon, Cookies and Cream, and Marsh-Mallow S’More at the Atlantic Station or Madison Yards locations. From 10 a.m.-noon, get free sprinkles with any ice cream purchase. Madison Yards and Atlantic Station.
At Home
Just this once, break the rules with a build-your-own sundae bar. Start with ice cream scoops (for a healthier twist, use frozen yogurt) and set out toppings like sliced bananas, berries, granola, graham cracker crumbles and peanut butter.
Make your own breakfast “nice” cream by blending frozen bananas and berries to make a thick soft-serve. Let kids add their own mix-ins, like fruit, cereal bits or cookie crumbles.
Instead of a cone or bowl, serve ice cream on top of a toasted waffle, slice of banana bread or a pancake. Make your own baked ice cream cones with this recipe from Innichka Chef.
For a fun challenge, have each child choose a color and create a sundae based on that color.
- Yellow: vanilla ice cream, bananas, corn flakes
- Brown: chocolate ice cream, chocolate sprinkles and cocoa crispy cereal
- Rainbow: rainbow sherbet, chopped fruit and M&Ms
Have a blindfold taste-test to find everyone’s favorite flavor, or hold a contest to see who can identify the most flavors.
Plan ahead and make your own ice cream for the special day. No ice cream maker? There are plenty of no-churn recipes online, including this one from The Pioneer Woman. Find more fun DIY ice cream ideas on our post.
