Having some extra cash to contribute to your family is always a bonus. Here are some job opportunities that you may not think about.

Freelance Work

Do you have a degree or work experience in a specific area, but want to work from home or work according to your own schedule? Freelance work is the perfect option for this. Tutor.com matches you with students in your area of expertise, Proofreadanywhere.com allows you to capitalize on grammar, spelling and punctuation skills and Fiverr.com offers freelance jobs in graphic design, writing and editing.

Babysitting

Become a babysitter for your friends or sign up to be a Care.com or Sitter City babysitter. The jobs are flexible, and you can choose when you are available to babysit. On the other hand, other parents can choose when they need you (either on a weekly basis or just for a date night). Other opportunities on the websites include senior care, home care and pet care. Visit the websites for application requirements.

Airbnb

With Airbnb, you can rent out your basement, carriage house or an extra room in your house. Decide which weeks or weekends you want to make the area available, and at what rate, make a profile and post photos of the space on the site. You can set check-in times and handle the process (interaction with guests, etc.) the way you choose.

Grocery Delivery

There are several grocery delivery services, which help users have fresh produce delivered to their doorstep. Apply to work for companies such as Shipt or Instacart and shop for other people’s groceries. The customer chooses items off a list from the app, and the shoppers pick up the items from a local store (specific stores work with specific apps) and deliver them based on time requested. Apply online and then choose the hours you wish to work.

Ride Sharing

Sign up to drive with a ride-sharing company, like Uber or Lyft, and decide to pick up riders when you please. The flexibility of this job makes it ideal for parents who want to make some extra cash, but cannot commit to a full-or part-time job. Sign up online, share required documentation and become approved by the company. Once approved, turn on the app when you wish to pick up customers.

Rover

Find a job as a pet sitter or dog walker with Rover. You can choose between helping with overnight pet care, dog walking or drop-in visits. The app connects you with nearby dog owners in need of your services, and you choose which jobs to take. Create a profile including your dog care experience and dog owners can pick you to help. Once you start the dog care service, the Rover app allows you to share photos, a map of your walk or notes about the experience with the owner.

Task Apps

Time-saving apps  such as Task Rabbit and Takl allow users to choose from a variety of needs such as yard work, house cleaning or a custom task, and providers complete the task. Users choose the day and time they need help (or same day) and pick someone based on their hourly rate. Once the work is complete, the worker gets paid through the app. You can create a profile, attend an orientation (Task Rabbit), get approved via a background check and then start accepting jobs.
