Atlanta Parent talked to Amanda Blank, Media & Promotions Manager for Fox Theatre, who is the mom to Caleb, 10, and Evan, 6.

What’s your go-to craft or activity?

Easy science projects that only require typical household products, baking or making friendship bracelets and birthday banners for our family and friends. Last week, we made huge bubbles and planted some seeds. This week, we are tie dyeing old things from around the house and making banana peanut butter muffins. I am trying to do a few different things every week that don’t require a ton of prep work.

What’s your go-to meal?

My husband and I love to cook family meals. We were already eating at home most nights before the big event. We have a few go-to meals, and we are all very much into comfort foods right now. SuSu’s Sweet and Sour Meatballs are in our regular rotation of comfort meals.

SuSu’s Sweet and Sour Meatballs

  • Mix meatballs together with 1.5-2 lbs. ground beef, ⅔ c. bread crumbs, ½ c. water, 2 beaten eggs and salt and pepper.
  • In a pot, add 1 28-oz. tomato sauce, 1 minced onion, ½ c. lemon juice and ½ c. sugar. Bring to a boil. Add meatballs. Put the lid on, but not all the way, and simmer on low for an hour.
  • Add cooked bowtie noodles and serve.

What do you do when your kids say, “I’m bored?”

I tell them that I have a list of chores for them to help me with. Or to go read for thirty minutes.

How are you connecting to other relatives and friends during this time?

We are using FaceTime to stay in touch with relatives and using the Houseparty app to stay connected to friends. We are trying to do both often. It helps us all to stay connected and see loved ones, even if we can’t be with them in person.

What other advice do you have for Moms at this time?

Be flexible and graceful with each other and ourselves.
