Night at the Museum at Tellus Science Museum

If you have ever wanted to ask Dr. Who about his travels, or Marie Curie about her discoveries, here is your chance!

Actors portraying historical figures like Albert Einstein and Leonardo da Vinci will impress you with their scientific discoveries, while fictional science characters like the Flintstones and Iron Man will explain how science was important in their “lives.”

At Night at the Museum on August 8 from 6 -10 p.m., each child will receive an autograph book to commemorate this special night of time travel. Children 12 and under are also encouraged to dress up as their favorite science or science fiction character.

If you want even more excitement, head into the Theater for a crowd-pleasing show by the Tellus Madd Scientists! The beloved Tellus Madd Scientists will entertain you with demonstrations that explode with fun. Advance purchase is recommended as the event may sell out.  $20 per person.  100 Tellus Dr., Cartersville. 770-606-5700. tellusmuseum.org

Blobs in a Bottle
(The world’s easiest lava lamp)

What you will need:

1 liter clear soda bottle

3/4 cup of water

Vegetable Oil

Fizzing tablets (such as Alka Seltzer)

 Food coloring

Pour the water into the bottle.

Use a measuring cup or funnel to slowly pour the vegetable oil into the bottle until it's almost full. You may have to wait a few minutes for the oil and water separate.

Add 10 drops of food coloring to the bottle. The drops will pass through the oil and then mix with the water below.

Break a seltzer tablet in half and drop the half tablet into the bottle. Watch it sink to the bottom and let the blobby greatness begin! To keep the effect going, just add another tablet piece. For a true lava lamp effect, shine a flashlight through the bottom of the bottle.
