The Arthur M. Blank Center for Stuttering Education and Research at The University of Texas is changing the world for people who stutter through three core branches: training (Lang Stuttering Institute), research (Bodner Developmental Stuttering Lab), and treatment (Dealey Family Foundation Stuttering Clinic). Dr. Courtney Byrd, the Blank Center’s Founding and Executive Director, has been building a stuttering program at UT since 2003. With its flagship at UT Austin, satellite center in Atlanta and program offerings worldwide, the Blank Center’s distinct CARE (Communication, Advocacy, Resiliency, and Education) Model empowers the stuttering community worldwide to Dream. Speak. Live.
TREATMENT: Provides CARE programming at no cost that empowers children, teens, and adults to stutter openly, speak confidently, communicate effectively, and advocate meaningfully.
TRAINING: Provides weekly consultation, ASHA CEU, and certificate training for speech-language pathologists to strengthen their clinical impact in their communities.
RESEARCH: Through 100+ peer-reviewed publications and clinical resources, generates innovative new knowledge to advance understanding and translation of theory to best practices.
ENDING THE STIGMA: Increases public understanding about stuttering through our award-winning series and other trailblazing evidence-based initiatives that aim to END THE STIGMA.
CAMP DREAM. SPEAK. LIVE.: Empowers children who stutter to realize their full potential through Camp Dream. Speak. Live., an intensive dosage of CARE, which is offered in 50+ locations worldwide.
EDUCATION: Fosters a pipeline of expert clinicians and researchers, through our academic teaching and research mentorship of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students.
