Unlike a traditional summer camp, SOAR programs are designed for youth and young adults with learning and attention challenges. All of SOAR’s camps are outdoor-adventure based where campers build life skills through activities such as surfing, llama trekking, rock climbing, whitewater rafting, horseback riding, canoeing and more. These experiences empower campers to overcome challenges and relate these experiences to other aspects of their lives. Since 1977 SOAR has focused on campers’ individual strengths, rather than deficits, and adapted programs around specific needs of the youth they serve. SOAR’s goal is for each camper to increase self-confidence, make friendships and develop life skills. The staff works to instill the values of exploration, goal setting and perseverance through outdoor activities. Summer camps range from 6 to 21 days in length, are coed and overnight for campers aged 8-25. Our main locations are in Western North Carolina and Dubois, Wyoming, with satellite camps in the Florida Keys, California, Colorado and even Belize!
