SUMMARY:Healthyville at Children's Museum of Atlanta
DESCRIPTION:If healthy is the new cool\, then both children and adults may find the new “Healthyville” exhibit at the Children’s Museum of Atlanta one “hot” spot to check out! \n \n\n \n\n \n \nAs the name suggests\, “Healthyville” is a make-believe town where people of all ages live healthy\, active lifestyles. A walk through this “life-like” interactive exhibit gives visitors a hands-on opportunity to explore facts and tips on nutrition\, fitness and the human body. \nThe various stations showcase everything from the circulatory system to a detailed look at just how food travels through the digestive system. Children will especially enjoy strapping on helmets and pedaling a stationary bike at the “Exercise Your Heart” station\, or rowing back and forth to see how their bones connect at the “Joints” station. \nThere’s also a colorful virtual Dentist Office where kids take an up-close look at how to properly brush and floss their teeth\, find out the names of each tooth\, and even practice brushing a big mouth with a giant toothbrush! \nAlmost anyone can learn something new by visiting “Healthyville.” Find out just how many hours of sleep you need according to your age at the “Bedtime station.” Then play the “Food Allergens” game to see if favorite foods may contain allergens. \nWith each area\, kids will be learning while having a blast. This exhibit allows kids to engage in “real-life” situations to help them understand the human body\, and the importance of making healthy choices. \n– Monica Croom \nExplore nutrition and fitness through hands-on areas including good foods market to create healthy meals\, nutrition balance\, healthyville park to get moving and the care center. Through May 28. Mon.\, Tues.\, Thurs. and Fri. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sat. and Sun. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. $15.95-$18.95; younger than 1\, free.

SUMMARY:Blue Man Group: Making Waves
DESCRIPTION:Waves are everywhere! At least sound waves are everywhere and your child can learn more about the basics of sound in an exhibit at the Children’s Museum of Atlanta inspired and created by the Blue Man Group. \n \n\n \n\n \n \nMy family really enjoyed “A Sound Connection\,” the mini-musical that sparked the children’s interest in the exhibit. Actors dressed as an alien and a caveman encouraged the children to make common animal sounds found in the forest.  My preschooler Caleb did a fine impression of a frog. \nAll the segments featured throughout the exhibit were colorful and stimulating for children ages 3-8 years. \nOne of the most interesting elements of the exhibit is the PVC pipes to make sounds and perform just like the Blue Man Group. All the school-aged children enjoyed playing with the PVC pipes\, which were accompanied with user-friendly sheet music to play common tunes like “Ode to Joy.” \n “Look mommy\, my belly is a drum\,” Caleb said\, as we visited the “You’re a Musical Instrument” segment of the exhibit. It has an interactive video about beating your belly like a drum. \nAll the children and parents liked using their senses to feel and see sound waves. From this exhibit\, children will learn elements of sound such as the speed\, moving waves faster for a higher frequency of sounds\, building better sounds with pitch and timbre\, and creating variations of sounds with their voices and the PVC trombone.  Parents liked the show on a world without sound\, but also rediscovered basic elements of sound\, too! \nTips for getting the most out of this exhibit: Use this as an opportunity to stimulate your child’s creativity. No inside voices needed here. Release the sound and have fun! \n–Patrice Little \nThe Details:  \nThis exhibit brings together science and art through a multi-sensory exploration of sound. Make music on the sand drum\, tube phones or PVCs just like the Blue Man Group. \nChildren’s Museum of Atlanta\n275 Centennial Olympic Park Dr. NW\, Atlanta\n404-659-5437; childrensmuseumatlanta.org\nAdmission: Adults and children\, $15.95; under age 1\, free.\nExhibit: Blue Man Group exhibit closes Sept. 4
