Every child deserves a safe place to heal, grow and live. If you’ve ever wondered what it takes to be a foster parent, read on!

It’s rewarding.

For foster parents, providing a stable, loving environment for children who find themselves in a difficult situation is rewarding. “I know I am making a difference in children’s lives,” says current foster parent Ms. Law. “I love that my home is full of love and that there’s always something going on.”

The need is great.

It is estimated that there are currently half a million children in foster care in the United States. Over 11,000 children are in Georgia’s foster care program. Since 2020, there has been a significant decrease in available foster homes. Because of a lack of foster homes, many are living in temporary situations, such as hotels, indefinitely.

Almost anyone can be a foster parent.

Foster parents can be single or married, with or without children of their own; they receive extensive training and undergo an assessment and home study analysis. Providing a stable, loving environment for children who find themselves in a difficult situation is rewarding. Speaking from her own experience, Ms. Law reflects, “I’ve learned to love a child no matter what they were going through.”

Change a child’s life.

Foster children are in crisis and have often experienced unsafe conditions such as neglect or abuse, or a parent is no longer available to care for them. As a foster parent, you are offering them a safe place to live and grow, and helping them learn skills they need to be successful in life. The experience is life-changing.

Change your life.

As a foster parent, you will learn to be patient and love unconditionally. You’ll invite more love into your life and feel the joy of helping a child learn skills they need to succeed in life.
