Atlanta Parent & Atlanta Baby
Writer's Guidelines
Atlanta Parent Magazine
is a monthly magazine aimed at parents with children
from birth to 18 years old.
Atlanta Baby
is aimed at parents from the time of pregnancy
through when baby is 2 years old. Atlanta Baby is
published 4 times a year.
For both publications:
- Send submissions to
editor@atlantaparent.com (as a
Word attachment); or Atlanta Parent Magazine, attn:
Managing Editor, 2346 Perimeter Park Drive, Atlanta,
GA 30341. E-mailed submissions are preferred.
- Authors should include name, address,
phone number and e-mail address at the top
of the first page, along with the word
count. On every subsequent
page, please include your name and email address
– top pages frequently get detached from the
rest of the manuscript.
- For publication in our magazines, please use only
one space after a period at the end of a sentence -
not two. All articles should be typed and
double-spaced. Lengths typically run from 800 to
1,200 words. Indent paragraphs with a tab.
- Articles should address the parent, not the child.
- All of our articles are very down-to-earth – we do
not print philosophical or theoretical articles.
Most are third person – we rarely publish first
person pieces, with the exception of humor pieces.
We do not publish short stories, poetry or fiction.
- Atlanta Parent Magazine and Atlanta Baby
are both service journalism publications. When
writing about a problem, give parents the symptoms
or signs of the problem and then the solution or
where they can turn to for help. We encourage you to
include the addresses, phone numbers and web
addresses for local and national resources and
support groups so our readers can obtain reliable
information.
- We will not accept articles with quotes from
experts located in only one region of the country.
For Atlanta Parent Magazine and Atlanta
Baby, the article should include either quotes
from local experts or experts from around the
country.
- Our readers also want to read articles that are
activity-based. Keep the instructions short and to
the point. Using the directions, do the activity
yourself or ask another person to follow the
instructions to make sure they are accurate.
- Articles will not be returned.
- All articles are submitted on speculation unless
specifically assigned in advance.
- If we like your article but have no immediate plans
to use it, our normal procedure is to keep your
article on file for possible future publication.
- Photos and illustrations may be submitted with the
story. Nominal payment may be offered, if used.
- Payment is upon publication.
