Red Top Mountain State Park
653 Red Top Mountain Road, Cartersville
Red
Top Mountain State Park’s playground is truly where
the wild things are! Wild, but amazingly accessible
deer are the unofficial greeters at this gorgeous
park located north of Atlanta (near Cartersville).
At certain times of the day, rangers feed the deer
at the wildlife viewing area, but Bambi and friends
wander throughout the park all day long.
Deer-sightings are just one of the attractions in
the park, however. The playground, located in the
beach and picnic area, is completed embedded in the
woods. Huge pines tower overhead providing
year-round shade and a buffer from civilization.
With a cushy bed of wood chips underneath, the
playground is divided into two separate sections (an
older one and a newer one). Both areas feature
slides, monkey bars and plenty of climbing
equipment, not to mention ample open space perfect
for a game of tag. More than two-dozen picnic tables
and grill areas are scattered around the playground
and because the playground is surrounded on three
sides by Lake Allatoona, most of the tables have a
lake view. In case of a sudden rainstorm, there are
also covered pavilions.
