Candler
Park
1500 McLendon Ave. NE, Atlanta
There’s no need to leave the city to experience
nature. Located in the downtown Candler Park
neighborhood, Candler Park Playground is situated in
the middle of one of the larger intown parks.
Rolling hills great for running, frisbeeing and
flying kites surround the playground area and there
is nary a tall building in sight.
All the playground equipment is made with a
rustic type wood, the metal portions are painted in
cheery yellows, greens, reds and blues and the
ground is covered with cushy woodchips. One section
is tot-friendly with metal animals for them to sway
back and forth on and a jungle gym structure with
short slides. The neighboring section is perfect for
kids a bit older with all the amenities that make
jungle gyms perfect – hanging loops, a sliding pole,
plenty of levels to clamber over and best of all, a
twisty turvy slide.
“We come here all the time,” says Julia Sweeney,
a Candler Park mother of Zach, 4. “It’s great for
all ages and so many nice kids are around to play
with.” Zach, who was just getting his balance after
jumping off one of the ledges on the ‘bigger kids’
side of the playground had a slightly different
view. “I love it here,” says Zach. “It’s a lot of
fun and when I fall down, it doesn’t hurt. Really it
feels okay.”
