Activity: Greeting Card Placemat

Want to find a way to recycle all of those beautiful old greeting cards? Let your kids make a placemat out of them! This activity is fun, creative and costs almost nothing. This is a great way to get crafty with your kids on a hot summer day when you want to stay indoors.
What you will need:
15-18 greeting cards
Clear contact paper
Construction paper
Glue
Medium-sized round can
Pencil
Rolling pin
Scissors

Begin by using the can to trace circles around the section of a greeting card you want to use for the placemat. After doing this for each card, carefully cut out each circle and glue them to a sheet of construction paper in the desired pattern. Allow the glue to dry. Take a sheet of contact paper; make sure that it is 4 inches longer than the placemat’s length. Laminate both front and back of the placemat and trim the excess contact paper. You’re finished! Now you and your kids can enjoy lunch or dinner on your own works of art.
