Today’s Activity: Nature Plaque

The great outdoors is filled with beautiful little “knick knacks” that you can pick up while on a nature walk. Why not take some of these treasures – from tiny pinecones to bird feathers – and make a keepsake with your child?
What you will need:
Nature items, such as small pinecones, leaves, acorns, twigs and pebbles
Wood plaque, (about 4 by 6 inches, or larger if preferred)
Sandpaper
Glue
Screw-in hook
Ribbon

What to do:
While on a nature walk, or just exploring your yard or neighborhood, collect a variety of small natural items. At home, sand all rough edges of the wood plaque until smooth. Arrange items in desired positions on plaque, and then glue each on. Let dry, then attach a screw-in hook to the top of the wood plaque. Select a ribbon, and tie it around the hook in a bow. Now you have a beautiful piece of nature to dress up your home.
Helpful hint: When the plaque is finished, adults (not children) can spray clear acrylic over the natural items to preserve them.
