Talent Showdown

 

Atlanta’s kid stars will shine at Atlanta Parent’s Talent Showdown.  The top applicants will be invited to audition at the showdown on August 3.  Celebrity judges will determine our winners who will perform at Family Block Party on October 12, 2013 at Atlanta’s Mercer University.  Family Block Party is Atlanta’s best family festival with more than 5,000 attendees.

Dream of seeing your child’s name in lights?  Atlanta Parent Magazine is looking for kids to show off their unique talents at our annual Talent Showdown at the Center for Puppetry Arts.  If your kid has a passion to be an actor, singer, dancer, musician or something totally original, sign up to compete for a spot to perform at Family Block Party!

Guest judges will determine ten winners to perform at the children’s stage at Atlanta Parent Magazine’s Family Block Party on October 12, 2013 at Atlanta’s Mercer University campus.  Family Block Party is Atlanta’s best family festival with more than 5,000 attendees. 

One lucky contestant will be named the winner of the Talent Showdown and perform on the main stage of Family Block Party.  This is a great opportunity for kids to show off their talent and gain valuable performing experience, plus it is sure to be a lot of fun for everyone involved. 
 

How to Participate:

Applications are now available. Please download and submit the required material to be considered. 

Please submit application, application fee, picture and demo (web video, cd, dvd or web site link) to be selected to audition to perform at Family Block Party. If selected, your audition will be scheduled by appointment only. Participants may only enter one category. Applicants will be notified by Friday, July 19, if they have been selected to audition.

Application Fee:

One to four persons performing = $25
Group performance= $50

Audition Process:

•All auditions will be two minutes long. 
•Please keep performance family oriented. 
•Equipment provided for auditions include: cd player, music stand, microphone.
•Winners performance time will be longer depending on talent.
•Judging will be broken down by age group (Ages 5-9, 10-13 and 14-18) and category.

Rules for each category:

•Dance: (all types, including ballet, tap, step, modern, etc) (no more than 10 persons in a dance performance)
•Performance time at Family Block Party will be 6 to 8 minutes.
•Judged on originality, level of difficulty, showmanship and team work

Singing: (individual or group)

•Please choose age appropriate, family friendly music
•Performance time at Family Block Party will be 5 minutes.
•Judged on vocal quality, stage presence and appearance

Variety: (including monologue, drama, instruments, juggling, jump rope, magic, comedy etc.)

•Performance time at Family Block Party will be 10 minutes, but may vary based on act.
•Judged on originality, showmanship and stage presence

Selection Process:

•Judges decisions will be final.

Posting of winners:

•Finalists will be selected and be posted at www.atlantaparent.com on August 9.  Winners will be called.  We will select up to 10 winners (not limited to category or age group).

Prize:

•Winners will perform at Family Block Party on October 12, 2013. 

Good Sportsmanship is a requirement for participating in this event!  It is expected that all participants and their families/supporters will conduct themselves with grace and behave in a positive manner toward each other and all the performers.  Any unsportsmanlike behavior from the performers themselves or their parents and/or supporters during the show will result in immediate disqualification!  Any complaints, comments or suggestions regarding the show may be addressed to the coordinator following the program.
