Ice Cream in a Can


Ice cream is one of our favorite ways to cool down on a hot summer’s day. Instead of making a trip to the store and buying a tub of ice cream, how about challenging the kids to make your own delicious, frozen treat ?

What you need:
2 coffee cans (one 1-lb. and one 3-lb.)
1 cup heavy cream
1 cup light cream
1 egg, beaten
½ cup sugar
1-2 cups salt
1 tsp. vanilla extract
Several cups crushed iced
Duct tape

Combine all of heavy cream, light cream, egg, sugar and vanilla in the 1-lb. coffee can. Cover with lid and seal with duct tape. Place this smaller coffee  can within the larger coffee can. Pack ice and about 1 cup salt around the smaller coffee can. Cover with lid and seal with duct tape. Roll on a large towel for 15 minutes. Open the large can, dump out ice and water and extract the smaller coffee can. Open and stir the contents, scraping the sides to get everything in the mixture. Add additional ingredients such as candy or cookie pieces if desired for extra flavoring. Cover and seal the can again and place it back in the large can. Pack with more ice and salt. Roll for 10 more minutes. Now that you are finished, enjoy your sweet treat and take a break from the scorching weather.
