Every year Atlanta Parent sets out
to share the stories that affect Atlanta families.
In February, at the annual Parenting Publications of
America’s Editorial and Design Awards Competition,
we received confirmation that we’re doing our job.
Judges awarded Atlanta Parent with 16 awards that
night in Little Rock, Ark. for the design and
editorial content of the magazine in 2007, and for
our website. Gold: Calendar of Events: for being user-friendly and providing in-depth information every month. Ancillary Feature Writing: Cynthia Curtis for her story “Labors of Love” in Just Kids. Overall Design: for being well organized, use of photography and appropriateness; Sheri Taylor-Emery.
Briefs/Short Stuff Design: Sheri
Taylor-Emery for the design of Hip Mom. Silver: Briefs/Short Stuff Editorial: Tali Toland for Hip Mom. Special Section: for January’s focus on education. Judges said it was “comprehensive, and very helpful to parents.” Original Illustration: Vernon Carne for his illustration for June’s story “Babes in the Woods.” Feature Layout/Black & White: for November’s “Guiding Kids Through Grief;” Sheri Taylor-Emery. Overall Use of Color: for creating a clear tone throughout the publication; Sheri-Taylor Emery.

typefaces to complement content and

Bronze: Headlines: for appropriate and catchy headlines throughout the publication; Tali Toland. Interview: for Mary Abreu’s coverage of three teachers whose passion for education causes them to teach “outside the box.” Infographics: for December’s Ho-Ho-Holiday calendar; Sheri Taylor-Emery. Front Cover: for October’s cover. Judges said the photograph clearly defined the issue and the use of color was effective. Ancillary Feature Design: for Atlanta Baby’s “Coming Clean: How to Declare War on Germs;” Sheri Taylor-Emery.
