Hammond Park Features: Hammond Park in Sandy Springs has two playgrounds that kids and moms alike will enjoy. The playground intended for younger children was constructed with safety in mind. Spongy flooring means no bloody boo-boos, and the black fencing keeps your little sprinter from making a run for it. The structure is wheelchair accessible and has a panel at the entrance illustrating the way to communicate dozens of common words through sign language. The larger playground for older kids is about a two-minute diaper waddle away, so you can’t just glance up to check on the big one while you help the little one down the slide. It features a myriad of wooden climbing structures, curvy plastic slides and plenty of benches for moms and dads. Right next to the rope climbing obstacle is a covered picnic pavilion with two grills, so grill-masters can watch their little monkeys without scorching the hot dogs. Amenities: Parking isn’t a problem, but trying to make it to the bathroom from the playgrounds during a code yellow can be a tricky proposition. Directions: The park is conveniently located near I-285 and GA-400. The easiest way to get there is to take the Peachtree-Dunwoody exit (28) off of I-285, and head NE on Peachtree Dunwoody when you get off the exit ramp. Hang a left on Hammond Dr. and the park is about a half mile up on your left.. – KG |
