Sweet
Tomatoes
What’s on the menu: Greeted by an enormous 55-foot salad
bar filled with dozens of prepared salads and all the fixings
for a make-your-own version, Sweet Tomatoes is a buffet-style
restaurant that specializes in soups and salads. Soup selections
range from classic broth-based varieties to delicious chilies
and specialty chowders. There are pasta dishes and kid-pleasing
macaroni and cheese, along with breads and pizza. Fresh fruit,
cobblers and soft-serve ice cream round out the menu.
Why your kids will like it: Starting with a heaping plate
of salad with hand-picked selections, they’ll enjoy their own
creations. Buffet-style means kids are encouraged to leave their
seats to select their next dish or replenish drinks. “It feels
like Thanksgiving,” says 7-year-old Drew about all the food
choices. The bright colors and noisy atmosphere help create a
kid-friendly environment your little ones will love.
Why parents will like it: Fresh ingredients in soups and
salads, with an emphasis on seasonal vegetables, get top ratings
from parents. The menu changes daily, and there are no fried
foods on this buffet. Portions are maintained with handled soup
crocks that hold one cup of soup, as well as smaller plates and
dishes that won’t allow overloading. The all-you-care-to-eat
price, which doesn’t include a drink, is discounted for
children: 2 and under is free; ages 3-5 is $1.49, and ages 6-12
is $4.49, adults are $8.99.
