Father’s Day Fun

Give Dad a day to remember with outings to these attractions offering special paternal packages:

1Meet dads of a different kind during Fatherfest at Tanglewood Farm. See all the proud papas – from the black stallion to the silly billy goat – as they show off their babies. While there, go on a pony or hayride, pet and feed miniature animals, and tour Wild West Town. Fatherfest takes place June 1-30. Dads are free all month long. Hours: Wednesday-Friday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Last ticket sold one hour before close. Admission $9; kids under 1 free. Price includes tour and pony ride for kids. 171 Tanglewood Dr., Canton. 770-667-6464.

2Does your brood belong in the zoo? Then head to Zoo Atlanta June 22, 23 or 24 for a fantastic celebration of fatherhood. The Zoo’s Day With Dad gift package includes costumed characters, a children’s DJ and awesome animal encounters, as well as lunch, zoo admission and tickets to ride the train and carousel. You’ll even get a keepsake family photo! Buy your gift package any time before June 22 at the zoo or online, www.zooatlanta.org. Cost: Adults, $21.99; children, $20.99. 800 Cherokee Ave., Atlanta. 404-624-9453.

3Bluegrass, bugs and BBQ – it’s the recipe for a Father’s Day blowout at the Atlanta Botanical Garden. The whole family will love the live music, old-fashioned games, crafts and ’cue that will be served up June 17 from noon-5 p.m.. Best of all, you’ll get to explore the latest exhibit, “David Rogers’ Big Bugs & Killer Plants.” Cost: Adults, $12 (dads are half price); children 3-17, $9; 2 and under, free. 1345 Piedmont Ave. NE, Atlanta. 404-876-5859. www.atlantabotanicalgarden.org.

Personalized Notepads

Family artists will have a blast designing personalized notepaper for dads. Have the kids decorate the top of a piece of paper, then take it to a print shop to be made into notepads.

Coupon Book

Design coupons – index cards work great – for chores and other things you can do for Dad, like mowing the lawn, washing his car or taking out the trash. You can even make ones for not arguing with your brother (or sister), letting Dad sleep in, and going to the store without asking for anything.

Trunk Tote

All the stuff banging around in the trunk of Dad’s car driving him crazy? Decorate a heavyweight cardboard box that will be a great trunk organizer. Decorating will be easier if you break down the box flat first, then let Mom tape everything back together. Fill with the balls, tools and other gear that’s rattling around in the trunk.

“World’s Best Dad” Trophy

A fancy plastic goblet, a block of wood, heavy-duty glue, a can of gold spray paint and a black permanent marker are all you need to show your father he’s the “World’s Best Dad.” Ask Mom to help you glue the goblet to the block of wood. When the glue is dry, ask her to spray paint the entire thing gold. Let dry overnight. Use the marker to write “World’s Best Dad” on the block.

Make Dad’s Day

Here are a few ideas for spending the day with Dad:

Grab your fishing poles and head to the lake, pond or river for some fishing.

Organize a neighborhood baseball, basketball, football or soccer game and play Dads vs. Kids.

Take a hike through your favorite park or nature preserve. Don’t forget to pack a picnic lunch to enjoy along the way!

Buy a bucket of golf balls and enjoy some time at the driving range.
