Snow day! Those two words are rarely spoken in metro Atlanta. Only an average of 2.1 inches of the white stuff falls annually. But when it does, it’s a big deal for everyone. These fun-filled crafts and recipes may be the next best thing to snow flurries and no school. Get ready to chill out.

Snowman Cookies
Ingredients: Vanilla wafers (we used regular size for body and bite size for head), white frosting, assorted decorating items (e.g. raisins, M&Ms, shoestring licorice, Red Hots, fruit rollups, decorating gels, chocolate chips and/or pretzel sticks).
Directions: For each snowman, frost three cookies and place them in a row to form the head and body. Decorate with the suggested decorating items. (Familycrafts.about.com)

Snowman Face
Ingredients: Cottage cheese, baby carrot, olives, cherry tomatoes and other small round vegetables.
Directions: Pile cottage cheese onto a plate and then let your child decorate using the other veggies.

Edible Snowflakes
Ingredients: Tortillas, oil and scissors.
Directions: Fold tortilla in half. Use scissors to cut out your “snowflake” using the same technique for paper snowflakes. Then put a small amount of oil in a pan and cook the tortilla on the stove until crispy. Sprinkle with powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar or other topping. (StepbyStepcc.com)

Marshmallow Snowman
Ingredients:
Toothpicks, marshmallows, pretzel sticks, fruit rollups, licorice and decorating icing.
Stack three marshmallows using toothpicks. Use pretzels to create arms. Apply decorating icing to create face, buttons, etc. Wrap the licorice or rollups around the snowman’s neck to form a scarf. The orange part of candy corn can also be fashioned into a nose.

Snowman Toast
Ingredients:
Toast, circle cookie-cutter, cream cheese, raisins, carrot and apple peel.
Directions: Toast a piece of bread. Use the cookie-cutter to cut out three circles. Line up the three cutouts and spread cream cheese on the toast. Create a face and buttons using the raisins and carrot. A strip of apple peel can be used as a scarf. (ShowMomTheMoney.com)

Snowman
Materials: 16 oz. bottle with label removed (like a water bottle), cotton balls or white tissue, glue, felt or other fabrics, craft foam, scissors and a sock.
Directions: Stuff the empty bottle with cotton balls or tissue. Cut pieces of black felt or fabric to make the face of the snowman. Glue the pieces on. (Try orange felt for the carrot nose.) Use other strips of fabric or craft foam to make a scarf for the snowman. Also cut up an old sock and form a hat. Extra embellishments can be easily added. (KidsDomain.com)

Shaving-Cream Snowmen (For younger children):
Materials: Wear smocks and cover a table with a large trash bag. Then create a winter wonderland out of shaving cream! (Daneillesplace.com)

Tic-Tac-Snow
Materials: Construction paper, marker, cotton balls and pennies.
Directions: On a piece of construction paper, create a snowflake by drawing four intersecting lines within a large square. At the end of each tip of the snowflake, draw a dot. Also draw a dot in the center where all the lines intersect. These dots represent the spaces where you can place your game pieces. To make your pieces, glue cotton balls to pennies. Using a marker, draw a colored dot on the top of half of the cotton balls and mark a dot with a different colored marker on the other half. These represent your Xs and Os. Follow the rules of tic-tac-toe. (FamilyFun.com)
