Who better to create must-have products for baby
than other parents? A growing number of Atlanta area
moms and dads have been inspired to create baby
products to make their lives easier or even develop
a way to share the unusual items they’ve found. Here
are a few fun things for baby from the minds of
local parents.
Power Flower T
Moms of girls can appreciate Caren Cohen’s
challenge to find cute non-pink clothing for her
daughter. The Atlanta mom decided to design her own
and the Power Flower T was born. The black onesie –
available in sizes 3-6 months, 6-12 months and 12-18
months – features a colorful flower design that also
brings attention to a cause close to Cohen’s heart:
infertility. Cohen gave birth to her daughter after
undergoing fertility treatments, and each sale of
the Power Flower T benefits Resolve, The National
Infertility Association (www.resolve.org). The
shirts, which retail for $22 (with $2 going to
Resolve), are available at www.djbabyclothing.com.
Get Fit With Baby
Moms Clare Schexnyder and Cyndy Norford launched
Oh Baby! Fitness in 2005. The pair met through a new
mom’s support group following the births of their
children in 2004 and were inspired to create an
exercise experience that would be beneficial for
moms with babies. Oh Baby! offers a variety of
prenatal and postnatal exercise classes, many of
which incorporate moves with babies, at 25 locations
across the metro area. Find one near you at
www.ohbabyfitness.com.
Total Travel Bag
How many times have you wished you had a way to
keep your baby’s bottles cool while you’re on the
go? Of course, that would create a need to warm up
those bottles. Marietta mom and inventor Maretta
Johnson has developed a stylish and functional bag
that either Mom or Dad can carry. The Total Travel
Bag features a built-in, battery-operated bottle
warmer plus a cooler, in addition to the usual
diaper bag items like changing pad and storage
pocket for used diapers. The black microfiber tote
can be carried three different ways and converts
into a small garment bag once it’s no longer needed
for toting diapers and bottles. The $99.99 bag can
be purchased online at www.totaltravelbag.com, Sweet
Peas in Canton or Cumberland Embroidery at Town
Center Mall.
Parents on the Web
www.kiddiecatalog.com
A growing number of Atlanta parents have been
inspired to start online businesses after their
children were born.
Matthew and Stephanie Swanson
have launched three online businesses following the
birth of son Charlie: MonkeeMoos.com,
BabyBoyBlog.com and the newest addition,
BabyGirlBlog.com. MonkeeMoos offers boutique
clothing for baby and toddler boys, while the two blog sites offer product reviews and information of
interest to parents with little ones of either
gender.
Danielle Haas-n turned frustration
from constantly losing baby socks into a new
product. Her Snapdragon Baby Co. sells socks with a
soft elastic loop that keeps them attached to baby’s
clothing. They are available via her website,
www.snapdragonbaby.com; pricing starts at $8.
Hardeep Melamed started Teenie Tiny Tots Kiddie
Catalog (www.kiddiecatalog.com) because she wanted
baby and toddler products with a personal touch. She
now sells a wide selection via her online catalog,
which targets kids of all ages.
