One of the coolest playgrounds in Marietta may be
a sure way to beat the Georgia heat this summer.
Cobb County’s Lost Mountain Park covered playground
opened in Fall 2005. No other covered playground,
except for those at fast-food chains, exists in Cobb
County, according to Nick Pratt of the county’s
Parks and Recreation department.
With its massive tent-like mesh covering, the
playground equipment stays cool and the shade blocks
most the brightest rays of sunshine and gives some
UV protection. Stretching high over the playground
equipment, the sun cloth provides no rain protection
but can withstand high winds.

Nestled at the top of a hill between softball and
football fields, the playground has slides, bridges
and tunnels and is designed for children of all
ages. There are only two benches by the playground,
but most parents don’t mind standing or taking a
seat around the edges to watch their little ones
run.
Many children gather new-found friends for a game
of tag around the large open area, play
hide-and-seek inside the tunnels and slides, or dig
in the thick layer of mulch (designed for safety).
