Cobb Park
Smyrna
How many city parks provide facilities that exceed the
usual slides and swings and also offer a workout for Mom or Dad? Cobb Park
is located just west of downtown Smyrna where Powder Springs Road hits
Sanford and Ward at Campbell High School. It boasts Kidscape Village I and
II, merged play areas for both toddlers and older kids.
For the little ones, there are tubes to crawl through,
steps to climb, a pint-sized balance beam and small barricades, in addition
to scaled-down slides and safety swings. A slow-moving "gondola" provides a
vigorous upper body workout for the parent turning the hand crank that
inches the low-level wooden seat along a metal rod.
The older children can climb a rope wall, play in a fort,
shriek down one of two winding "tornado" slides or traverse a tightrope of
chain link. One of the more popular pieces of equipment is a set of overhead
sliding handles that allows boys and girls to zing back and forth between
platforms. Cobb Park also has open-air picnic tables, a pavilion
with grill, public restrooms and a grassy field that will accommodate most
ball sports. For more information call 770-431-2842.
