Jim Henson’s Dinosaur Train

Children will always be fascinated with dinosaurs. Hop aboard Jim Henson’s Dinosaur Train in Bryson City, N.C., for an unforgettable adventure. During a one-hour, 45-minute layover, kids can meet a costumed Buddy the T-Rex, play dino putt-putt golf and enjoy a bouncy slide and games. The Dinosaur Train departs on Fridays, July 18, 25 and Aug. 1 at 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.; on Saturdays, July 19, 26 and Aug. 2 at 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m., and on Sundays, July 20, 27 and Aug. 3 at 3 p.m.

If you can’t make it out of town, visit dinosaurs locally, and learn about these fascinating extinct creatures at the Fernbank Natural History Museum or the Extreme Dinosaurs exhibit at Atlantic Station.

Fernbank’s “Dinosaur Plaza”

The Dinosaur Plaza features very large bronze sculptures outside and imitation bone structures inside in a permanent exhibit that allows your child to see dinosaurs in life-size form. On Aug. 23, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Fernbank has a Dinosaur Birthday Bash, with activities that include dinosaur- and birthday-themed games and  crafts as the museum celebrate the 13th anniversary of “Giants of the Mesozoic.”

Extreme Dinosaurs exhibit

This new all-dino exhibit featuring full-sized models, skeletons, fossils and an interactive design-a-dinosaur station. Seventeen animatronic dinosaurs move their limbs, blink, and roar. Open through Jan. 4, 2015.
